Prices are what they are in that area because people are willing to pay them instead of shunning those stations and driving a few miles further for their gas needs.

This has been such a non-issue for a long time. Who is forcing anybody to buy gas from those stations? Springdale, Glenbrook, Summer St. - plenty of nearby places where gas is cheaper.

If people are willing to pay those prices, who are we to tell the station owners they can't charge them? Let them charge what they want. If people don't move on and buy somewhere else, the price isn't too high for their customer base.

If ALL of the stations in town had the same price, then I'd believe in collusion, and we wouldn't have the choices that we currently do.

The laughable one is the Shell at the corner of Mill River. I think those are the highest in town, and can't help but shake my head in disbelief when I see someone foolish enough to buy there.

Even if you're coasting in on fumes, just buy a gallon's worth and drive to a more competitively priced station.

I can't explain about Stamford vs. Norwalk, or uptown vs. downtown, but NJ has the 3rd lowest state gas tax in the nation (above WY & AK), and CT has the 4th highest (after NY, CA, HI.) That must account for some of the differences among the states.

I live 30 seconds from those 4 gas stations on High Ridge (Shell, Mobile, Citgo, Sunoco). I've never bought gas on any of them. The prices are about 30 cents per gallon more than 4 miles away.

Gas in Darien (which is more expensive city to live in) and Norwalk is way cheaper than in Stamford.

2 days ago NPR radio said that CT has the second highest gas prices in US. I guess Fairfield County probably has the highest prices in the country. Including Hawaii.

But still, I see plenty of people buying gas on those 4 gas stations.

It' too bad the fireworks are cancelled. With everything that is going on, the war, the oil spill, foreclosures, job loss, ecomony still awful maybe the new administration in Stamford could have been a bit more creative on how to celebrate our nations birthday of freedom. By not doing anything just adds to the list of doom and cloom. Public attractions are a way for communities to bind together. I do agree shippan suffers from the display because of the nonsense partying of the bar goers in the area. I guess we will have to celebrate our nations birthday in other communities this year!!
